This unit is broken into 5 parts, which can be downloaded separately to teach as individual lessons, or downloaded as a whole unit. Each section is filled with relevant text, visuals, flowcharts, graphics, graphic organizers, primary sources, activities, assignments, and much much more. The parts are described in detail below...enjoy!

 

Part 1 (14 slides): Background - including: Greek democracy, Roman representative democracy, Magna Carta, John Locke, Enlightenment influences on the Declaration of Independence, a word sort, a matching activity, maps, primary source text from the Magna Carta and from the Declaration of Independence, an original political cartoon (created on my own)

 

Part 2 (13 slides): Articles of Confederation - including: entire text from the AoC, reasons for the AoC, quotes from the AoC, perceived problems with the AoC, primary source text and questions from Articles I, II & III.

 

Part 3 (15 slides): Federalist Papers - including: background on federalists and anti-federalists, info about Hamilton, Madison and Jay, titles of the Federalist Papers, main points, federalist topics matching activity, sample text from Federalist No. 39 (about "Federalism" and state sovereignty)

 

Part 4 (19 slides): U.S. Constitution - including: intro to the Constitutional Convention, the main issues debated, the Virginia Plan, the New Jersey Plan, the Great Compromise, the Three-Fifths Compromise, Montesquieu and separation of powers, visuals and graphics, text and charts to explain the roles of the 3 branches of the federal government, the entire text of the U.S. Constitution in the background of on slide (the shortest Constitution in the world)

 

Part 5 (17 slides): Bill of Rights - including: activity for students to understand and create visuals for each of the first ten amendments, 1 slide for each of the first ten amendments, with the primary source text and visuals to help students understand, a fill-in-the-blank activity
