1) What is meant by the term “seven wonders of the ancient world”?

2) Who decided on which ‘wonders’ made the list?

3) Why does only one still exist while the other six are in ruins?

4) Why are all of these wonders from the same region of the world?

Around the 300s BC (4th century) the Greeks had conquered much of the known world. Greeks could travel around these conquered territories to see distant lands, civilizations and sights. The seven wonders of the ancient world are really just popular sites and landmarks that Greeks remembered and talked about during the time. All but one of these wonders was destroyed either by fire, earthquakes or pillaging.
