Going beyond teepees and wigwams, these resources has been designed for use in 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade. This download includes all of the following:

 

1) 50-slide PowerPoint featuring a different type of dwelling from each of the nine cultural regions of North America. These slides include images, links to videos, informational text and more. Featured dwellings include: teepees, igloos, hogans, longhouses, plank houses, cave dwellings, wickiups, wigwams, and chickee huts (with images, background, text, and a video link for each)

 

2) Blank map handouts (two versions; an easier version with cultural regions already outlined, and another version where students outline the cultural regions. This comes in both PDF and MS WORD format.

 

3) Copies of dwelling image cut-outs for students to cut and paste on their blank map. This comes in both PDF and MS WORD format.

 

4) Graphic organizer for students to follow along with the information on the PowerPoint slides. Students find the dwelling name, the cultural region, the tribe that uses that dwelling, adjectives to describe the dwelling, and two other facts about the dwelling. This comes in both PDF and MS WORD format.
